Man Utd information: Michael Carrick singles out star after streak ends as switch stance clear
Michael Carrick’s arrival as interim manager at Manchester United has brought renewed confidence to the club and here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford
There’s a renewed sense of optimism at Manchester United following Michael Carrick’s arrival and a great run of four wins and a draw since he took charge.
The former Red Devils midfielder only returned to Old Trafford a month ago after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal but has already restored belief in a squad that desperately needed it. United’s prospects of securing Champions League qualification have significantly improved under the interim manager following his encouraging start in charge, despite the setback of a 1-1 draw against relegation battling West Ham on Tuesday night, which ended his winning streak.
Focus on the summer transfer window continues to intensify daily. The transformation Carrick has managed to deliver could present an opportunity for him to be considered for the permanent role. Beyond the wins, his appointment has already reportedly prevented the departure of one club star. Here’s the latest news from Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo transfer strategy caused astonishment
Kobbie Mainoo’s transformation has been remarkable since Carrick’s appointment, reports the Mirror.
Prior to Carrick’s hiring, the 20-year-old not only failed to start a single Premier League fixture under Amorim, but he was reportedly lined up for a loan move for the remainder of the campaign.
The midfielder was reportedly targeted by Napoli, with Antonio Conte allegedly keen to bring the England international to Italy, where he would have linked up with former United colleague Scott McTominay.
Multiple Premier League clubs including Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton were all said to have shown interest in securing Mainoo’s signature before that door was firmly closed following his return to the starting XI. According to The Telegraph, there was “genuine disbelief” in Naples regarding United’s apparent readiness to let Mainoo go.
These sentiments were reportedly echoed by “many Premier League clubs” before Mainoo was informed that, following Carrick’s appointment, he would be restored to the first team in a more significant capacity.
Marcus Rashford return verdict
Marcus Rashford is currently thriving at Barcelona and has previously expressed his desire to stay in Catalonia beyond the summer.
The La Liga heavyweights hold an option to purchase Rashford – who has netted and created 23 goals this campaign – for £26million, which they’re understood to be eager to trigger.
It appears all involved parties believe a clean slate represents the optimal solution for the England winger, 28. According to the Sun, United are maintaining their stance and preparing for a future without Rashford.
With United chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox spearheading efforts to bring in the club’s next permanent manager, nothing has shifted regarding Rashford’s future, despite suggestions Carrick would welcome a reunion.
It’s been more than a year since Rashford’s last appearance for the club, and he no longer has a squad number at United after Matheus Cunha claimed his No. 10 shirt following his summer move.
United are expected to enter the transfer market this summer seeking a forward to fill the void left by both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.
Carrick singles out star
Carrick hailed Leny Yoro’s one-on-one defending after the Red Devils snatched a draw at West Ham.
United’s winning run ended at four matches, but they were able to earn a point after Benjamin Sesko’s 96th minute equaliser cancelled out Tomas Soucek’s opener for the home side.
Yoro was brought on to replace Harry Maguire late on. Despite West Ham having several big chances to extend their lead, 20-year-old Yoro made two critical blocks to keep his side in contention.
Carrick said: “I have to give credit to Leny. I thought his two bits of defending, one-vs-one, defending the counterattack, which we knew he was going to have to do at times, throwing the bodies forward. I thought those two moments when he blocked shots were huge.
“He deserves a lot of credit for that, to give us the chance to then go and get the goal that got something out of the game.”
