Jake Paul’s fiancee Jutta Leerdam opens up on ‘lonely’ life away from YouTuber

Jutta Leerdam has opened up on the sacrifices she made away from Jake Paul to prepare for the Winter Olympics in Italy this year

Speed skating sensation Jutta Leerdam has revealed the sacrifices she’s made to clinch Winter Olympics glory, including time apart from her fiancé, Jake Paul. The Dutch star got engaged to social media sensation Paul in March 2025 after they connected on his podcast.

The 27-year-old bagged gold in the 1,000m speed skating on Monday – smashing an Olympic record along the way. She narrowly missed out on another crown to fellow Dutch skater Femke Kok in the 500m final on Sunday, securing a silver medal instead.

Leerdam demonstrated her sportsmanship in the aftermath – striking poses for snaps with her compatriot post-medal presentation. She and Kok had previously shared each other’s highs and lows from the 1000m final, with the newly-crowned champ comforting the second-placer, roles reversed this time around.

Leerdam has now opened up to the Sun about needing to spend time away from Paul back in her home country of Holland to concentrate on training for her second Games.

She said: “I sacrifice a lot of time, my family and my loved ones. It’s pretty lonely sometimes to always just train and not spend time with anyone.

“You want to do the best you can. You cannot really have a rest, but it’s worth it, especially right now.

“I would like to inspire as many women and young girls as I can. So I try to do as much content as I can, because that way I can reach as many people, and it’s such an honour to do it.”

“And I feel so much support from everyone and I feel all their energy. So it’s very helpful for me, actually.

“It’s never been a distraction for me because I put it all out – I really focus on skating, I really put all my energy into that. Having something on the side, sometimes it helps because you cannot think about it 24/7.”

Leerdam’s on-ice conduct remained dignified in the face of scrutiny surrounding her recent conduct within the Dutch team. This criticism largely stems from her seeming detachment from her teammates in the run-up to the Games.

She chose to travel to Italy on a private jet rather than join her teammates on the official flight. Leerdam also decided to skip the opening ceremony at Milan’s San Siro, opting instead to watch the proceedings on TV.
