Lloyds and Halifax app glitch sees prospects proven different individuals’s transactions
Lloyds Banking Group has apologised after some customers reported seeing other users’ account details including transactions and national insurance numbers online
Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed it is investigating following reports that customers using Bank of Scotland, Lloyds and Halifax apps could view other users’ transactions on their accounts.
The banking giant has issued an apology and stated it is examining what occurred. A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson commented: “We’re sorry that some customers experienced an issue viewing transactions in the app for a short time this morning.
“The issue was quickly resolved and we’re looking into what happened.”
One woman informed BBC Scotland News that she could access the accounts of six different users through the Bank of Scotland app, including some national insurance numbers, during a 20-minute window.
These encompassed transactions from a Newcastle pub, benefit payments from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), and salary payments from an English-based company, according to the BBC.
Additional customers have reported witnessing transactions made by others, including supermarket purchases and direct debits.
Writing on X, consumer champion Martin Lewis revealed “people have been messaging me this morning of being shown other people’s transactions”.
Multiple users responded confirming they had observed unfamiliar transaction details before the app returned to displaying their own banking activity.
Monitoring site Downdetector also recorded a surge in complaints on Thursday morning concerning Lloyds and Halifax.
