Parents die in one another’s arms after sending tragic final textual content from wedding ceremony
Mariano Robles, 28, and Solana Albornoz, 32, were found dead embracing in their car after flash flood struck following wedding in Tafi Viejo, Argentina, leaving two young children
A husband and wife left stranded in their car during a severe storm died in each other’s arms, leaving behind two young children. Mariano Robles, 28, and Solana Albornoz, 32, had just attended a wedding at the SMATA complex in the town of Tafi Viejo in northern Argentina when tragedy struck.
The couple, who were last seen joyfully dancing throughout the evening with their friends, had departed the reception venue in the early hours of April 5 during terrible weather conditions. They had messaged their nanny saying they were waiting for the downpour to ease before returning home to their children, aged two and nine months.
However, the text they sent to their childminder would tragically become their final communication, as they perished just hours later when a flash flood swept their vehicle away.
The couple left the wedding venue at approximately 1am on April 5, but had not returned home by the next morning, prompting worried family members and wedding guests to share appeals across social media. One posted on Facebook saying: “If anyone knows anything about Mariano Robles or Solana Albornoz, please let us know as soon as possible.”
It was heartbreakingly revealed later that their white Nissan Versa had been dragged into an irrigation canal by a flash flood. The sheer force of the rushing water flipped the car with the couple trapped inside, and it was found overturned in the ditch following search operations launched by Mr Robles’ brother, who had raised the alarm at a police station on Sunday morning.
The wreckage was located just hours later by emergency services, who discovered Mariano and Solana’s lifeless bodies entwined in an embrace amidst the debris. Mariano was employed as a civil servant at the Tucum Government Palace, while his wife worked for the state-run savings bank, Caja Popular de Ahorros.
They leave behind their two young children. Loved ones have said that the couple were completely devoted to their kids, always putting them first in their lives and seldom spending days away from them.
The nanny who was looking after the youngsters that evening told Infobae that the parents “should have been back by 10pm” after deciding to spend just one night away. She stated: “They should have been back by 10pm. They never spend the night away from home, ever. They are very careful with their children.”
An inquiry into the circumstances surrounding their tragic deaths is currently underway. The couple were among three people who tragically lost their lives during the severe storm, with a third victim, a 12-year-old boy, confirmed during the storm in the Tucum region on Saturday night.
Lisandro reportedly died from electrocution after coming into contact with a utility pole in the city of San Miguel de Tucum while playing football with friends.
