Scunthorpe household haulage agency closes after 27 years with all jobs misplaced
CandL Transport Services based in Scunthorpe has ceased trading with administrators appointed after financial challenges, leaving all of its workforce redundant
A family haulage business has stopped trading with the loss of all its staff after running into financial difficulties. Transport firm CandL Transport Services, listed on Companies House at Oswald Road in Scunthorpe, was established in 1997 and recently marked 27 years in the haulage sector as a family-operated enterprise.
The firm specialised in transporting recyclable materials throughout the UK, utilising a fleet of articulated lorries and walking floor trailers. The most recent accounts for the business, spanning its 2023 financial year, reveal it held shareholder funds of £365,328, rising from £258,792.
Nevertheless, the sum owed to creditors after more than one year had more than doubled, from £209,050 to £601,423. Last month it emerged that administrators had been appointed at the operation, which had bases in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, three days after a winding up order was lodged against the company.
The order was submitted at a court in Liverpool by UK Fuels Limited, a Crewe firm claiming to be a creditor.
Now, joint administrators Kelly Burton of specialist business advisory company FRP and Phil Clark of Clark Business Recovery have revealed how the enterprise had been facing financial difficulties in recent months, reports Grimsby Live.
They said the operation was put up for sale – but no bids were received that would have allowed the business to continue operating. Consequently, the firm stopped trading before administrators were brought in, and all seven staff members were regrettably made redundant.
The joint administrators are assisting those impacted with claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.
Kelly Burton, joint administrator of CandL Transport Services, said: “Despite efforts to market the business, no viable offers were secured and the Company has ceased trading. Our focus is now on supporting those affected and bringing the Company’s affairs to an orderly conclusion.”
CandL Transport Services’ website emphasises how the company’s highly experienced team go “the extra mile to ensure the very best service while offering value for money. Our business growth and development is built on a reputation to be proud of”.
The administrators are now set to publish documents detailing their proposals.
