A pensioner has been killed after being struck by a lorry and then dragged along the road for three miles in Bradford. Police have now arrested someone in connection
Horror struck on a Yorkshire road as a 77-year-old woman was found dead after being hit by a lorry and dragged for three miles.
The pensioner’s body was discovered on a road in Yorkshire, miles from the initial collision which happened at around 5pm on Wednesday. Emergency services scrambled to the scene following reports of a HGV ploughing into a female pedestrian in Bradford.
Officers were then alerted to a second scene after a body was found on a road three miles away. Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, with police believing the vehicle “carried” her for miles after the impact. A 55-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in Bradford. Officers were called at around 5.20pm yesterday (Wednesday, April 15) to reports that a pedestrian was in collision with an HGV on Harrogate Road towards Killinghall Road.
“A short while later officers received a call that the body of a woman has been found on Neville Road. Sadly, the 77-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“From our enquiries we believe that the woman involved in the collision was carried by the vehicle to Neville Road.
“Police then received reports about a body being found at that location. A man aged 55 was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
“He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
Cops are now urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward. Detective Inspector Paul Conroy from MCET said: “This is an extremely upsetting incident involving an elderly pedestrian in Bradford.
“Our thoughts go out to the family who are being supported by specially trained officers.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the Harrogate Road/Killinghall Road area who may have dash cam footage of the HGV or the pedestrian at the traffic lights to come forward.
“We understand there were several vehicles in the area at the time of the collision who may have witnessed it, we are keen to speak to the driver of a red Ford Max, a grey Skoda SUV, a silver Toyota and a white SUV.
“We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw the HGV after the road traffic collision driving towards Neville Road.”
