Scottish Grand National assembly – Jason Heavey’s day one ideas

The Daily Star Chief Tipster has singled out two improving young horses to score at Ayr as the Scottish Grand National meeting gets underway.

SANILAM (4.05, nb) is having a stellar season and can grab more success on day one of the Scottish Grand national meeting at Ayr.

He has bagged three successes over hurdles with his latest victory at Musselburgh an excellent effort as he was giving away lumps of weight.

Conor O’Farrell managed to settle him in that race and if he can do so again there is plenty more to come and he can take the Coral handicap Hurdle.

THE GRAFTER (2.20, nap) can make short work of his rivals at the Scottish track.

The seven-year-old has been a revelation over fences winning both his starts.

A scopey individual, he clocked up four seconds over hurdles but trainer Sam England always thought he would do better over the bigger obstacles.

The Grafter is 7lb higher in the weights in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Novices’ Limited handicap Chase but he can see off Throatlash and Marty McFly.

LANCE LES DES (1.45) and MYRETOWN (3.30) are other fancies.

There are a host of unrated and unexposed horses running at Newbury but ON THE INLET ( 4.55, trb) is worth catch again.

The gelding bolted up twice within a week and goes for the hat-trick off a higher mark. He should manage to get the job done.

CLASSICAL ALLUSION (4.20) chased home Constitution Hill at Kempton and an opening handicap mark of 85 looks pretty generous in the Cityam.com Handicap.

Elsewhere, TRAVEL AGENT (2.08) ran a corker at Kempton recently and can score for Adam Kirby in the first race while the evergreen PORT NOIR (5.35) just keeps on winning and can do so again for Rose Dawes.

OURBREN (6.22) should get off the mark at Bath while I’ve had an each-way nibble on ATALANTA MIST (6.52) for a trainer who does well at the track.

At Exeter OUR GUIDE (5.10), who cost a fair few quid, can win the first while SQUARE DU ROULE (6.10) can reward favourite backers.

PRAIRIE QUEEN (7.10) also gets the vote off a nice racing weight.
