Eamonn Holmes dealt contemporary blow as he ‘loses’ Man Utd function after 19 years
Eamonn Holmes faces a fresh blow after a brutal health scare as Manchester United Foundation removes him from board role after two consecutive stints totalling 19 years
Eamonn Holmes is facing another setback as his cherished Manchester United has allegedly terminated his position with the club following 19 years of service. The broadcaster and devoted Red Devils supporter had maintained a seat on the Manchester United Foundation board.
However, it’s understood the club has now dismissed him from the position as he must take a compulsory “break”. Documents lodged with Companies House listed the GB News personality as having ‘resigned’ from his Director role.
It’s reported that the presenter’s departure from the post follows “standard practice” since no member should serve beyond nine consecutive years in the position.
A source told the Daily Mail: “It is only a ceiling benchmark, and it is possible to remain on for longer. While Eamonn has served two consecutive stints, on this occasion the current chair of the board has used their discretion to implement a mandatory “break” which has resulted in Eamonn stepping aside.
“It is ultimately out of Eamonn’s control. While it is believed Eamonn could one day return to the board, it is unclear how long the enforced break is.”, reports the Mirror.
Eamonn continues to display the role in his Instagram biography. Last month the broadcaster experienced a health emergency after suffering a stroke. In a statement, GB News said: “Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.
“He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.” Days later, he took to Instagram to share a message from his grandchildren wishing him a speedy recovery. The photos showed his granddaughters holding a sign that read “get well soom”.
And he acknowledged the spelling error in his post, saying: “Got this first thing this morning, from my two lovely granddaughters. So now doing my best to get well SOOM!!”
His son also provided an update shortly after news of his health scare emerged. Declan, 37, spoke on behalf of the star’s family.
He said: “I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family.
“What happened came as a real shock, but dad is doing OK given the circumstances and we’re taking it one step at a time. For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him.”
He continued: “We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.”
