Scarborough explosion as 70 houses evacuated after ‘loud increase’ rocks avenue

A major emergency service response has been deployed on a street in North Yorkshire after reports of a explosion at a house.
Around 50-70 homes and business in the surrounding area have been evacuated in on Cambridge Street in Scarborough as a result of the incident.
The explosion was reported at about 5.45am with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue confirming that a multi-agency response was put in place to deal with the incident.
The ambulances service are also involved but there has been no word on any injuries as a result of the suspected blast.
In a statement, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said: “On-going incident Cambridge Street Scarborough Fire crews are currently supporting a multi‑agency response to reports of an explosion at a residential property on Cambridge Street in Scarborough.
“We were called to the incident at around 5.45am today (Friday 8 May). As a precaution, around 50 to 70 nearby homes and businesses have been evacuated and a cordon remains in place. Firefighters are working alongside the ambulance service, police and the gas board, at the scene.
“Members of the public are asked to avoid the area while emergency services continue to deal with the incident. Further updates will be shared when more information becomes available.”
