Pep Guardiola ‘set to stop Man City’ on the finish of Premier League season

Manchester City’s iconic boss Pep Guardiola is set to quit the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season despite City completing the domestic double

Pep Guardiola is set to quit Manchester City after ten years as manager at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola completed the domestic double over the weekend as his City side bested Chelsea to Wembley – their second silverware of the season after winning the Carabao Cup back in March. And it could be the final success of the Guardiola era.

The Catalan took charge at the Etihad in 2016, and he’s gone on to lead his side through a magical period which has seen City sweep up 20 trophies and truly establish themselves as one of the top clubs on the planet.

However, according to the Daily Mail, City have started to tell their sponsor partners that the announcement of Guardiola’s departure is imminent. And it has been an “open secret” to those close to the Catalan.

According to the report, the announcement will be made next Sunday, after the final game of the season.

It will allow City fans to have one last goodbye to the man that has delivered them six league titles, including four-in-a-row, and a Champions League title at their trophy parade on Monday (May 25).

Despite still having one year left on his contract, Guardiola’s future has been in question over recent months. The Mail add its possible he remains at the club in some sort of capacity.

Enzo Maresca, who remains out of work after being sacked by Chelsea earlier this season, and Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany appear to be the two frontrunners.

Both have history at City: Kompany is a club legend and captained the side to numerous Premier League titles. While Maresca worked as an assistant under Guardiola.

Guardiola might still have one more present for City fans, with the possibility of a Premier League title still on the table. City need to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday and Aston Villa on the final day, while hoping Arsenal slip up in their final two games.
