Chaos as cops swarm city centre with roads closed and folks urged to ‘keep away’
Police, fire and ambulance crews have rushed to Bury town centre this morning, with a number of roads closed off and locals warned to stay away from the area
Emergency services have rushed to Bury town centre following concerns for a person’s safety. Police and fire crews are currently at the Rock car park in Derby Way, off Rochdale Road, this morning (May 19).
Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are responding to concerns about a person’s welfare at the car park. The public is being advised to steer clear of the area.
Derby Way is closed in both directions close to the Rock shopping centre, reports the Manchester Evening News. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) stated: “Our crews are currently dealing with an incident on Rochdale Road in Bury. Residents are asked to please avoid the area at this time.”
An update on the Inrix traffic monitoring service noted: “Derby Way in both directions closed due to police incident from A58 Rochdale Road to The Rock. Traffic is coping well.”
Bury council is urging people to plan ahead if driving through the town.
