East Midlands Airport ‘evacuated’ as passengers compelled ‘onto runway’ throughout heatwave

A major UK airport has reportedly been evacuated as passengers have been forced to wait on the runway, an airline has confirmed.
A passenger, who is currently waiting on the runway, reached out to Jet2 and East Midlands Airport to ask why they had been evacuated to the runway.
Writing on X, the passenger said: “Any idea why we’ve been evacuated onto the runway? One of the hottest days of the year and no shade or water and no updates from any staff.”
The post prompted a quick response from Jet2, who confirmed the evacuation at East Midlands Airport, but did not reveal details of the incident.
A spokesperson for Jet2 wrote: “We are aware that East Midlands Airport have been evacuated, we are working on the situation and will update you soon. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this and hopefully have you back inside as soon as possible.”
People on social media have also commented on a Ryanair flight seen circling the airport for allegedly over 20 minutes, according to Fightradar. It is unclear if this is connected with the evacuation at this time.
