‘Reckless’ couple responsible of raunchy intercourse act in park in entrance of 6-year-olds
Michele Doig, 47, was seen straddling Michal Kotecki, 40, as the couple engaged in sexual activity in front of horrified families at the Meadows in Edinburgh — the pair were handed community payback orders after being found guilty of public indecency
An amorous couple were caught in the act of sexual activity in front of stunned families in an Edinburgh park. Michele Doig was seen straddling Michal Kotecki as the pair “grinded their groins together” while parents and young children played nearby at the capital’s Meadows last summer.
Kotecki was observed pulling Doig’s top off and fondling her breasts over her bra as the pair drunkenly cavorted at the city centre park on 6 September last year. Appalled bystanders, who were sitting nearby with children as young as six, witnessed the sexual behaviour and reported the incident to the police.
Doig and Kotecki, both from Edinburgh, denied any wrongdoing but were found guilty of committing an act of public indecency following a trial at the city’s sheriff court earlier this year. Witnesses said they were enjoying a day out with their children when they noticed the couple playing music and frolicking on the grass at the popular park around 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon.
One man stated he saw Doig “sitting on top of the male” while the couple’s “groins were meeting and grinding”. The man said he saw Kotecki, a 40 year old painter and decorator, removing Doig’s top and groping at her breasts over her bra.
A mum of two young children also witnessed the couple engaging in indecent sexual conduct and said she could clearly see “the woman on top of the man with her top off”. She said her friend decided to ring the police and they had waited for officers to arrive to help identify the pair, reports Edinburgh Live.
Kotecki told the trial he and Doig were just mates and had been drinking vodka in the park and “having a laugh and joking and goofing around” with each other. He denied their behaviour was sexual or that he had fondled Doig after pulling her dress off to reveal her bra.
Doig, 47, said she was a grandmother and had worked as a social care worker in the past. She told the court she had been drinking alcohol from around 11am that day and had gone to the Meadows to meet Kotecki and enjoy the good weather.
Doig said the couple had been “listening to music on a phone and having a drink” when the police turned up to confront them about their behaviour. She denied climbing on top of Kotecki and him pulling her dress off to reveal her breasts and said they had been “rolling around the grass but not in a sexual way”.
Following the evidence the pair were found guilty and they returned to the dock for sentencing on Tuesday where Kotecki’s lawyer James McMacken said “alcohol is a mitigating factor in this case”. Mr McMacken added: “This was more recklessness rather than deviant behaviour.”
Sheriff John Cook stated that the public indecency incident had “not met the requirements for [sexual offences] registration” and handed down a community payback order to the duo. The sheriff sentenced Doig and Kotecki to be under the supervision of the social work department for the forthcoming 12 months.
Both were convicted of committing an act of public indecency, engaging in sexual activity and removing items of clothing at the Meadows, Edinburgh, on 6 September last year.
