Trump is discharged from hospital saying it went ‘completely’ as he thanks medical doctors

The polarising American leader, who is turning 80 next month, turned up at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday to undergo routine ‘preventive healthcare’

Trump has been discharged from hospital saying it went “perfectly”, as he thanked doctors and staff for their work.

On Truth Social, the US President said: “Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House. President DJT”.

This was the fourth time Trump publicly disclosed a medical exam since he returned to office for a second term. The polarising American leader, who is turning 80 next month, turned up at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday (May 26).

The White House has reportedly insisted it was routine “preventive healthcare” as questions about his health have intensified. “The visit will include the president’s routine annual dental and medical assessments as part of his regular preventive healthcare,” the White House announced on May 11.

This comes amid Trump’s repeatedly brushing off concerns about his age and health, pointing to previous test results that he claimed were “perfect”.

According to Forbes, Trump recently told reporters: “I feel the same as I did 50 years ago. It’s crazy. I know many people that all they do is watch their weight… and then they kick the bucket. And here we are, I feel great.”

Earlier this month, he also said in the Oval Office: “My health is perfect.” In January, Trump told The Wall Street Journal: “I will know when I am ‘slowing up,’ but it’s not now!”

The appointment was be his third scheduled visit to Walter Reed in about 13 months and his fourth publicly disclosed medical evaluation since returning to the White House. The White House physician, Dr Sean Barbabella, has said Trump is in “excellent health” and “fully fit” to serve.

After an examination in October 2025, Dr Barbabella also reportedly said that the president showed “strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance”. Trump has also claimed he “aced” cognitive tests during his evaluations, often comparing himself to Joe Biden.

In July 2025, the White House confirmed Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition linked to blood pooling and swelling in the legs. Photographers have also repeatedly captured prominent bruising on his hands, which Dr Barbabella has attributed to frequent handshaking combined with a daily 325mg aspirin dose taken for cardiac prevention.

Critics have also pointed to moments where Trump appeared to fall asleep or “rest his eyes” during official events. Concerns have extended to mental sharpness.

Earlier this month, a group of 30 psychiatrists and doctors signed a statement in the British Medical Journal describing Trump as “mentally unfit”, citing alleged “deterioration in cognitive functioning” and “impaired judgment”. Nevertheless, a 2025 memo also claimed Trump’s “cardiac age” was 65, 14 years younger than his actual age at the time, and reports have suggested he has lost around 20lbs (9kg) since 2020, something his team has linked to an “active lifestyle”.
