Ex-teacher took greater than 100 upskirt pictures of children as a result of he was ‘having a tough time’
Abusali Rahman, 36, who worked at schools across the North West, pleaded guilty to 21 offences at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday, including taking indecent upskirt photos of children
A former substitute teacher has admitted to taking over 100 upskirt photos of students.
Abusali Rahman, 36, who taught at various schools throughout the North West, confessed to 21 crimes at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday. Appearing via video link from HMP Altcourse, he pleaded guilty to 12 charges of taking indecent images of children by upskirting, four counts of publishing an obscene article, three counts of creating indecent images of children, one count of voyeurism and one count of distributing an indecent image of a child.
Rahman, a British citizen of Bangladeshi descent from Salford, is due to be sentenced on September 1. Emma Kehoe, defending, stated: “Mr Rahman knows this is a prison sentence but he was going through a mental health crisis at the time.”
She requested a psychiatric evaluation prior to sentencing. Recorder Geoffrey Lowe commented: “This is a complex case.”
Greater Manchester Police revealed that Rahman was arrested in June 2025 after a parent expressed concerns when a photo of their child in school uniform was shared on social media.
Speaking outside the court, Detective Sergeant Simon France said the guilty pleas were the result of a “painstaking, thorough investigation”.
He added: “We first received reports of Abusali Rahman’s suspected offending in March 2025 and he was arrested in June that year.
“The offences are alleged to have taken place in several secondary schools across the North West between December 2023 and 2025.
“The officers and staff working on this investigation, including our victim identification team, have put everything into building a case against Rahman and bringing the charges against him.
“This included our digital investigation unit which has analysed around 1,000 images over the past year.”
He stated that police had been in touch with all the schools Rahman had worked at since he became a qualified teacher in 2023.
