Panic erupted at a major airport after a car allegedly barrelled into a terminal in a terrifying scene that left witnesses stunned and travellers scrambling for safety.
The shocking crash happened at the Evans Terminal of Detroit Metro Airport around 10am on Friday (May 29) forcing officials to shut down the terminal as police rushed to the scene.
Witnesses described pure chaos moments before the impact. One eyewitness told Local 4 that the driver appeared determined to avoid the cement safety barriers outside the terminal – allegedly driving up onto the sidewalk instead. “As he pulled in, (he) just kept revving his engine,” the witness said.
The horrifying situation escalated when a woman reportedly fell and injured her knee during the commotion. According to the witness, the driver then screamed at her, “Get out of my way, b****!”
Photos taken by a bystander appear to show police detaining a person near the wreckage as emergency crews swarmed the area.
Travellers inside the terminal were left shaken as authorities locked down the scene and began investigating exactly what led to the violent crash.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether the incident was intentional, accidental, or if additional injuries were reported.
The Evans Terminal remains closed as investigators continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
