Famous DJ who produced iconic monitor helped enhance Daily Star icon’s profession

The DJ behind one of the noughties’ most iconic dance tracks has revealed how the raunchy music video helped launch Daily Star legend Casey Batchelor’s career.

Dutch producer Mason, best known for smash hit Perfect Exceeder with Princess Superstar, has reflected on the infamous video nearly two decades later after it recently found a new audience thanks to its appearance in Saltburn.

The chart topping track became a club anthem in 2007 and the provocative video, packed with bouncing space hoppers and barely there outfits, quickly became one of the most talked about music clips of the era. Among the stars featured in the video was a young Casey Batchelor, who later went on to become one of the Daily Star’s most memorable glamour models before appearing on Celebrity Big Brother.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Mason admitted he had no idea at the time just how much the video would change Casey’s life.

He said: “I found out about this much later and had no idea at the time. Ministry of Sound, the record label, set the video up in a heartbeat as the record was peaking in no time so things moved fast.

“But I’m obviously happy the video played a role in the launch of her career, as well as space hopper sales.”

Looking back at the legendary video itself, Mason confessed even he was shocked by how outrageous it became.

He laughed: “When the video was pitched to me it was supposed to be a David LaChapelle kinda vibe, which turned out a bit more t*** and a** than that.

“But looking back at it now, I see how iconic it was in its camp kinda way and it goes into the books with other videos from the same era like Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction.”

Casey previously credited the music video for changing her life completely.

She told us: “That music video was iconic and it took us touring all around the country. It’s actually how I got into working as a Daily Star girl.

“They featured it in the Star on Sunday as a spread and ended up just using my picture. Then they had loads of people writing in asking ‘who is that girl?’

“And so they called me in for a chat and asked if I would sign a deal with them to be a Star girl.”

She added: “Then I worked as the main girl on the Star on Sunday for the next four years. That then got me my spot on Celebrity Big Brother.”

Away from the wild success of Exceeder, Mason has privately battled a terrifying health condition after developing Guillain Barré Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder which left him paralysed and unable to walk.

The producer has now spoken publicly for the first time about the ordeal after he has just ran a gruelling 100km ultra marathon to raise money and awareness for Inflammatory Neuropathies UK.

Mason revealed: “I’m counting my blessings and am very aware how being healthy isn’t a given.

“Hopefully my story gives them some hope you can become strong again at some point.”
