  • Donald Trump has revealed dramatic, sci-fi-inspired plans to build a high-tech “drone port” on top of a new White House ballroom. He shared artificial intelligence (AI) mock-up images of the futuristic fortress over the weekend on his social media platform, Truth Social.
  • The eye-popping images showcase a tech-heavy roof with various unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) parked on the structure. The concept pictures also include armed military personnel standing guard to protect the fleet of drones.
  • Trump claims the military upgrade is absolutely vital for the safety of the president’s executive mansion and Washington, D.C. He told reporters that adding the drone port would effectively transform the building into a protective shield for the nation’s capital.
  • The controversial project has faced a rocky road in the courts, leading to a furious social media tirade from Trump. He lashed out at the legal authorities standing in his way, warning that they are risking America’s security.
  • Federal Judge Richard Leon threw a spanner in the works back in April by ruling the administration lacked congressional approval for the ballroom. Trump blasted the judge, claiming Leon will be held responsible for any future “death and destruction” if the project is blocked.
  • While Judge Leon initially ordered a halt to all above-ground construction, an appeals court has temporarily paused that ruling. The legal loophole means that builders are currently still on-site and working on the project for now.
  • Trump also launched a double-barrelled attack on preservationist Alison Hoagland, who helped launch a lawsuit against the building. He labelled her a “serial plaintiff” with no legal standing and mocked her concerns that the structure would ruin her walks.
  • The Department of Justice has asked the judge to scrap the construction ban, citing security fears following a recent shooting. The drone port preview was part of a larger weekend spree of AI images shared by Trump, which also featured a “golden dome” missile defence system.
