Nessie hunters flood Loch Ness with high-tech ‘micro’ drone to hunt monster in murky depths
Monster hunters flooded Loch Ness with a high-tech drone over the weekend, mapping the murky depths in a massive bid to find the elusive beast
Hordes of monster hunters flooded Loch Ness this weekend, unleashing a high-tech underwater drone into the murky depths for a massive annual search. The Loch Ness Experience’s yearly quest kicked off last Thursday, drawing waves of tourists and die-hard enthusiasts with advanced gear to the eerie 23-mile stretch of Scottish water known as Urquhart Bay.
Every one of them was hoping to finally bag proof of the famously camera-shy beast. Organisers revealed that interest in the mythical monster has skyrocketed this year, with Nessie seemingly more active than ever.
Nagina Ishaq, general manager of the Loch Ness Experience, told the Standard: “Loch Ness has a unique power to fascinate people, whether they are lifelong believers, curious sceptics or simply captivated by the mystery.
“The fact that 2026 has already brought new sightings shows that the intrigue around Nessie is as strong as ever.”
Experts Deep Sea Vision deployed their state-of-the-art autonomous underwater drone, Micro Millie, to chart the pitch-black floor of Urquhart Bay during the relentless hunt, which ran through to Sunday.
The creepy bay is a legendary go-to hotspot for monster hunters due to its chaotic underwater terrain, its proximity to the historic Urquhart Castle ruins and a recent spike in chilling reported sightings.
The robotic sub used cutting-edge sensors and autonomous programming to scan the loch bed in unprecedented, terrifying detail.
Sadly for believers, no definitive sign of the prehistoric beast was logged.
Despite the lack of concrete evidence, experts insisted the weekend was a massive success for monster hunting.
Alan McKenna, of the independent Loch Ness Exploration research group, said the weekend offered a rare chance to examine the loch “from different perspectives.”
He said: “For the public, it is a brilliant opportunity to get directly involved and play a meaningful part in the weekend.”
