Andoni Iraola ‘agrees deal to grow to be Liverpool supervisor’ as contract particulars emerge

Andoni Iraola is set to be confirmed as Liverpool’s new manager after reportedly agreeing a two-year contract at Anfield, with the Bournemouth boss expected to bring his backroom staff with him to Merseyside.

Andoni Iraola is poised to pen a two-year contract at Liverpool to replace Arne Slot, and is anticipated to be unveiled before the week is out. The Athletic reports that the Reds have struck a verbal agreement with their potential new manager.

The two-year terms mirror the deals he penned during his time at Bournemouth. His contract with the Cherries is set to run out at the month’s end. Iraola is keen to bring his backroom staff from the south coast to Anfield alongside him.

The 43-year-old is eager for Pablo de la Torre, Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper and Tom Webber to accompany him in the dugout on Merseyside, with discussions said to be ongoing regarding the composition of his team.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has spearheaded talks with Iraola, having been the man who brought him to Bournemouth as head coach in 2023.

The Basque-born manager spent three seasons with the Cherries and guided the club to 12th, ninth and sixth place finishes as he concluded his stint with Europa League qualification.

Alongside Hughes, Iraola will also know full-back Milos Kerkez who Liverpool acquired from Bournemouth last summer, reports the Express.

The reports come after Marco Silva confirmed he is leaving Fulham after five years as head coach.

The 48-year-old, who is departing Craven Cottage “this summer”, has not revealed his next destination, but Silva has been heavily linked with Portuguese giants Benfica.

His five-year tenure had made Silva the third longest serving boss in the Premier League, and fifth longest in the top four divisions.

In an open letter to Fulham supporters, Silva said: “To our fans – I asked you, from day one, to always be with us. And that’s what you did these past five years. We achieved a lot together.

“My staff and I always felt your support. It will never be forgotten. Fulham will always be in my heart, and sooner or later I will be back at Craven Cottage.”

Silva’s potential move to Benfica, who finished third in the Portuguese top flight this season, would see him replace Jose Mourinho, who is widely reported to be on his way back to Real Madrid for a second spell.
