Footballer, 19, discovered useless as membership pay heartbreaking tribute to ‘nice chief’

A 19-year-old footballer, tipped as one of their country’s brightest talents, has tragically been found dead at home as an inveistgation has been launched

A football star tipped as one of her country’s brightest talents has been found dead in her home aged 19.

America Isabel Acosta Hernández, a goalkeeper for Mazatlán FC’s womens youth teams and Obson Dynamo in Mexico’s Liga TDP, was discovered without vital signs. Emergency services were called to her home in the Mexican city of Mazatlán where she was pronounced dead on Tuesday (June 9).

The area was cordoned off for investigation and her body was transferred to a nearby morgue to establish the cause of death, which remains unexplained. So far, no foul play has been linked to the teen’s passing.

Hernández rose through the ranks as a promising goalkeeper for Mazatlán FC’s Sub-19 women’s side between 2020 and 2023.

After leaving the club, she continued her career with Obson Dynamo in the third-tier Liga TDP while also coaching younger players.

Tributes have poured in from clubs, teammates and coaches across the women’s football community, recognising her dedication and potential.

An Obson Dynamo spokesperson said: “We deeply regret this loss; rest in peace, star, you will always be remembered for the great goalkeeper, team-mate, and leader you were.”

Her former high school, UAS Villa Unión, also paid tribute, saying: “We express our most sincere condolences for the sensitive passing of our former student, joining the pain that overwhelms her family and loved ones at this time of profound grief.”

The Liga TDP issued condolences to her family and friends.

Her death comes amid heightened security concerns in southern Sinaloa, with reports of violence in rural areas around Villa Unión, Concordia, Rosario, and Escuinapa. However, officials have not connected her passing to any criminal activity.

The football world, particularly in Mexico’s women’s game, mourned the loss of a young talent whose journey from youth academies to semi-professional leagues inspired many. The investigation continues.
