Cristiano Ronaldo’s mum sends heartfelt message as son makes historical past at 2026 World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently starring at the 2026 World Cup and his mother has sent a heartfelt message to the Portugal star

Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother has expressed her immense pride in her son’s performances at the 2026 World Cup, while thanking football supporters for their unwavering backing. The 41-year-old Portugal star remains a crucial part of Roberto Martinez’s squad for this summer’s competition.

And it is generally believed that this year’s tournament across North America will mark his final appearance on the World Cup stage, deep into the latter stages of his illustrious career.

Portugal have successfully progressed to the knockout rounds following a group phase which saw them earn stalemates against DR Congo and Colombia, alongside a commanding 5-0 win over Uzbekistan.

Ronaldo also netted twice in the final match, becoming the first player to find the net across six World Cup tournaments. He also established himself as Portugal’s leading World Cup goalscorer with 10 strikes overall, eclipsing the outstanding nine that the legendary Eusebio achieved in 1966.

Following his extraordinary accomplishments, Ronaldo’s mother, Maria Dolores, has reflected on the endless pride she experiences.

She told FIFA: “I’m proud that my son continues to make history.

“I want to thank all the fans that have been by your side. You’ve given so much to the world.

“A kiss to you, my son. Your mother is always here for you.

“I want to thank everyone for the respect that you have shown my son. I send kisses to Portugal and all the Portuguese fans!

“I hope football continues to bring people together. Go, Portugal! Kisses.”

At 41 years and 138 days old, Ronaldo was also able to climb into second place amongst the tournament’s oldest goalscorers, trailing only Cameroon’s Roger Milla, who was 42 years and 39 days old when he netted his final World Cup strike. Following their second-place finish in Group K, Portugal will now take on Croatia in the round of 32.

That clash is scheduled for Friday, July 3 at midnight, and will unfold in Toronto. It comes as Ronaldo also delivered a brief but pointed message to his critics, having etched his name in the history books across North America.

The Al-Nassr superstar had faced criticism following a 1-1 stalemate with DR Congo in their opening fixture, while the likes of Lionel Messi and Vinicius Jr dazzled from the outset. However, speaking in the aftermath of his country’s 5-0 win over Uzbekistan, the striker wasted little time in declaring: “I’m back!”.

He added: “Only so they don’t forget…23 years like this,” before continuing: “I’m very happy but the most important thing is the work the team did and the confidence it gives us. Obviously personal records are always nice but my goal is always to help the team achieve its objectives.

“We had to get through many obstacles during the week but the team worked very well, we improved a lot. It’s been a difficult week, a dark week without kicking a ball, but we dealt with it as we always do because we believe in our work. It was difficult, but we’re back.”
