Wimbledon star orders enormous McDonald’s supply to hospital after huge well being scare

A Wimbledon star scoffed down 4,500 calories after ordering a huge McDonald’s delivery to his hospital bed despite battling a stomach issue having fallen unwell

Tennis star Learner Tien was rushed to hospital just hours following his second-round loss to Marton Fucsovics at Wimbledon on Wednesday. The American, who had progressed to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open earlier this year, was defeated 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 by the Hungarian.

Nevertheless, Tien, who has been hailed as a potential future Grand Slam champion, clearly wasn’t at his physical peak during the encounter, and was forced to take a medical timeout halfway through the clash.

It was reported he had been battling a stomach issue, which led to the unusual sight of Tien consuming a plain slice of bread during the first changeover of the fourth set.

Concerns about Tien’s wellbeing intensified following the match when he shared an image of himself lying in a hospital bed while connected to an IV drip on social media. However, there was a substantial amount of McDonald’s takeaway food on the table before him, indicating that the problem might not have been particularly serious.

It marks a disappointing conclusion to the grass court campaign for Tien, with the 20-year-old unable to improve upon his second-round showing from last year’s Wimbledon this time round. Presuming all is well regarding his health, he’ll now focus his efforts on the forthcoming North American hard court series.

There’s a strong motivation to do so as well, given Tien has never progressed beyond the first round at his home Grand Slam, with the tennis ace eager to make his mark at Flushing Meadows this year.

There will be plenty of attention on Tien, not least because legendary American tennis star John McEnroe tipped him to one day reach a Slam final ahead of the recent French Open.

Reacting to the compliment, Tien stated: “I would never go out and say I have the best shot of anybody, because the US has a great crop of young guys who are really making big strides, especially on the clay.

“The results are obviously going in the right direction for Americans on clay. Personally, I think that I do have a game that can suit the clay. Obviously it’s not something that I grew up playing on, but with more time, and I just think more experience on the clay, I do think that I can have success on this surface.

“But I think for a lot of Americans that is the case. A lot of us just haven’t really been exposed to the surface and just the more we get on, the more matches we play, just helps a lot.”
