Female affected person ‘sexually assaulted’ inside UK hospital as man arrested and held

Merseyside Police were called to reports that a female patient had been sexually assaulted inside Whiston Hospital at around 4am on Friday. Police have made an arrest

A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after a female patient was allegedly attacked inside a hospital.

A man, who police say is 63 years old, was arrested after cops rushed to the scene in Whiston Hospital, Merseyside, when a report was made by the complainant. The patient was reportedly attacked just before 4am on Friday.

A yellow police van was seen parked outside the hospital for most of the day. Merseyside Police confirmed a 63-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested and remains in custody for questioning. A spokesperson for the Merseyside and West Lancashire NHS Trust said: “We are co-operating fully with Merseyside Police, and as such it would not be appropriate for us to comment at this stage.”

Merseyside Police said the woman is being supported by specially trained officers.

Meanwhile, cops are investigating after a woman reported that she was sexually assaulted inside a B&M store in broad daylight.

Police have now released CCTV of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the incident. A report was made to cops at 3.35pm on Saturday, June 13, after a man reportedly approached a woman and touched her from behind.

The alleged incident happened in a B&M in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, Hartlepool. Police said they have gathered and reviewed CCTV footage as part of the investigation. A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “At 3.35pm on Saturday 13 June a report was made to police of the sexual touching of a woman inside a store.

“It took place in B&M at Middleton Grange Shopping Centre. A man has approached the woman and touched her from behind.

“Enquiries have been ongoing since the report was made including reviewing and obtaining CCTV and to find out further information.

“Police believe the man in the photo could have information that could assist with those enquiries.”
