The New York Police Department swarmed Coney Island late last night to reports of gunshots as Fourth of July celebrations were underway, leaving eight people injured including four children
At least eight individuals, including four children, have been wounded in a mass shooting incident in Brooklyn.
The New York Police Department descended on Coney Island late last night following reports of gunfire during Fourth of July festivities. Officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of West 31st Street at approximately 10.37pm on Saturday.
The injured, who were not publicly identified, included a 37-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman, a 14-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, a seven-year-old boy and a six-year-old boy. The NYPD said: “All victims were transported by EMS to local area hospitals where seven people were listed in stable condition.
“The 21-year-old woman is listed in critical condition.” Police said they recovered a firearm at the scene but have not made any arrests.
Detectives and police swarmed the scene outside the Seapark Apartments, and were spotted on video running down the street carrying young victims to get medical care.
A deli worker on the corner told NYP: “When I see in the camera I see the cops running with the kids in their hands. When I went out I saw one kid was going into the ambulance and I was told there were four inside.”
It is not clear how many gunmen there were or why the shots were fired. However, residents said the block is known for violence.
