Donald Trump points new menace to drag out troops and says ‘quite a bit will depend on Greenland’

Donald Trump has warned Britain and its European allies that US troops could be pulled off the continent unless he gets his hands on Greenland.
The miffed Orange Manbaby dropped the bombshell threat on British soil when Air Force One touched down at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk for a refuelling stop on the way home from the Turkey Nato summit.
Asked about the future of American troop numbers in Europe, Trump said: “I haven’t made that final determination. A lot’s gonna depend on Greenland.”
He went further, claiming the Arctic territory – which belongs to Nato ally Denmark – is “surrounded by China ships and Russian ships”.
He insisted: “It should be controlled by the US, not by Denmark.”
The President even suggested he could yank the entire US military presence out of Europe altogether, declaring: “We don’t have to spend any money; we could remove all of our soldiers out of Europe.”
Deputy PM David Lammy played down the row, insisting Trump’s threats feel “rhetorical as opposed to real”.
Speaking at a Chatham House conference in London, Lammy said “middle power” nations banding together had already forced a partial climbdown.
He said: “You did see the United States back off, although there has been a reassertion in the last 24 hours.
“But it feels rhetorical as opposed to real.”
Chancellor Rachel Reeves also previously hit back, saying: “The future of Greenland is up to the people of Greenland and of Denmark, and not up to the US president.”
It comes after months of tension between Trump and Downing Street, with PM Keir Starmer previously branding Trump’s tariff threats over Greenland “completely wrong”.
Danish PM Mette Frederiksen has vowed Europe “will not be blackmailed”, while Greenland’s own government insists the island is “not for sale under any circumstances”.
