Pop star Ellie Goulding will perform at halftime during the England vs Norway game on Saturday night (July 11).
The 39-year-old singer, famed for hits like Starry Eyed and Love Me Like You Do, took to Instagram on Friday (July 10) with the huge announcement. She couldn’t help but celebrate in style, jumping around on the bed while wearing an England footy shirt.
Ellie shared four snaps from her bedroom and wrote in the caption: “Performing at halftime for England vs Norway has me feeling like truly anything could happen… I already know the boys will make England proud, it’s coming home.”
The Three Lions will take on Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday at 10pm (GMT). The match will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
It comes after Ellie attended Taylor Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. ELlie and Taylor first met on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2012 and have remained pals ever since.
She said of the meeting: “I was really nervous, because she’s such a legend, and I remember thinking, ‘Please don’t act like a t***, Ellie – don’t say anything stupid.”
England made it through to the last eight after an explosive 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico. Norway, on the other hand, beat Brazil 2-1. The winners of England vs Norway will be facing either Argentina or Switzerland in the semi-finals next week.
Ellie is set to release a new album and, last month, released her new single Black Prada Dress. She said of the record: “The album came from the idea that maybe we can know too much. There is a certain kind of freedom in the ease of not knowing.”
She told NME of her new music: “This is probably the most honest I’ve been in my lyrics. I don’t have anyone to answer to. In certain situations, you’re trying to please someone, but for the first time ever, I don’t feel like I have to do that. I’m just making music that I love.”
