UK heatwave over as 22 areas face a complete soaking this weekend – see full listing
Britain has been roasting in heatwave conditions for weeks with record temperatures up and down the country, but the wall-to-wall sun is about to make way for rain
The UK has been basking in wall-to-wall sunshine over the past few weeks, but Brits hoping to carry on enjoying the Mediterranean heatwave are in for a rude awakening this weekend.
Forecasters at the Met Office have warned we are set to be hit by heavy rain showers as well as a significant drop in temperatures across most of the UK.
Saturday morning should offer Brits the chance to enjoy a bit more sun, with clear skies and warm temperatures predicted to kick-off the weekend, however early showers should be expected in and around Manchester and the west of Scotland.
Those rainy patches then look set to sweep across much of the north and west of the UK through the day, with showers lashing most parts of the country.
By Sunday, the prayers of thirsty gardens down south look set to be answered, as heavy rain moves towards London and the South east.
Areas around the west of Wales and London look likely to bare the brunt of the downpours early Sunday morning, with the rest of the south as well as parts of the north likely to see intermittent showers.
According to the Met Office: “The weekend looks set to be “dry and very warm at first, especially in the south. Rain then spreads southeastwards through the weekend, followed by sunny spells and showers. Temperatures trend closer to normal by Sunday.”
While temperatures are expected to drop from the 30C highs, it’s likely to still feel fairly warm in most of the UK, especially on Saturday.
In the north of England and Scotland, temperatures are likely to hit the low 20s on Saturday before hovering around the mid to low teens for the rest of the weekend.
Much of the UK looks set for similar mercury readings, although down south once again looks set to bake over Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures still hitting the high 20s.
