A 17-year-old girl is battling for her life following a collision in Liverpool city centre during the early hours of this morning (Sunday, July 26).
Around 1.20am Merseyside Police were alerted that two 17-year-old girls travelling on an e-scooter had collided with a Mercedes Vito on Great George Street. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, with one of the girls rushed to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
The second teenager was detained on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving without insurance. The Mercedes Vito driver fled the scene, but following investigations the vehicle was traced nearby, and a 57-year-old Liverpool man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop.

Officers have confirmed their investigation into the incident remains in its earliest stages, with detectives pursuing ongoing enquiries, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a very serious collision that has resulted in a young girl in hospital where she is currently in a critical condition.
“As part of our initial inquiries, we have arrested two people, and they both remain in custody, where they will be questioned about their possible involvement.
“In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal to any possible witnesses.
“We know this happened very early this morning, but if anyone saw what occurred or were driving through the area just before the incident, then please get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone who travelled through other parts of the city and saw two girls on an e-scooter to let us know.
“Similarly, if you live or work in the area and have CCTV or smart doorbell footage, please take a moment to review to see if you captured anything that could assist our investigation.
“Even the smallest of details could be vital, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch and let our team review your footage.”
