Death investigator ‘not afraid’ of the tip shares ‘worst’ approach to go
After investigated countless gruesome deaths, the professionals own opinion is definitely a surprise

A death investigator lifted the lid on death in LadBible’s honesty box to field some of the most compelling questions about her profession and what life is truly like working in the end-of-life industry.
Barbara Butcher revealed she had examined some genuinely harrowing crimes, accidental deaths, and heartbreaking cases involving children, even lending her expertise to investigations following 9/11. Yet, when pressed on the “worst way to die”, her answer was a surprising one that had nothing to do with violence.
Pausing to compose herself, she said: “I think drowning, for me personally. The idea of air hunger, of choking and struggling and inhaling water and vomiting. That sounds like a really really awful way to die.”

Drowning occurs when a person is unable to breathe due to their nose and mouth being submerged in liquid. According to St John Ambulance: “When someone’s drowning, it may not always look like the distressed call for help that most people expect from watching TV. They may go unnoticed, even if friends or family are nearby.”
Drowning is not always fatal – if a person is rescued promptly and receives appropriate treatment, they may recover fully without any lasting breathing difficulties or other health complications. Swift and correct action, however, is absolutely crucial. When drowning does prove fatal, death typically results from cardiac arrest, as the brain and heart are deprived of oxygen and cease to function unless it is restored.
Barbara worked as a death investigator for New York City’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner for over 20 years, investigating more than 5,500 deaths. However, when asked later in the interview whether she feared death, Barbara assertively stated she did not, purely because she is “extremely happy” with her life and the “fun job” she has.

She said: “I don’t want to die. But when I do, my hope is that I get to find out everything. That the higher power, the being, the universe, explains.
“How did the universe get created? How did human beings come about? Just tell me everything. Cause I’m so curious and I would love to know what the world is about.”
During the Honesty Box interview, there was one question Barbara refused to address. When questioned about the most “gruesome” scene she had attended, Barbara chose not to respond in order to protect viewers.
She said: “I don’t want to tell you, because you don’t want to know.”
