Michael Carrick is said to be exploring possibilities to bolster Manchester United’s squad following a relatively quiet period in the transfer market.

The United manager has already overseen the arrivals of key midfield targets, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. United’s scouting network has also captured promising prospects for the future in Tynan Thompson and Cristian Orozco.

Nevertheless, additional signings to enhance their first-team roster have been absent in recent weeks. With the new domestic season rapidly approaching, fans are keen to discover whether consensus at boardroom level can be achieved to secure a fresh acquisition.

Despite having already brought in two midfielders, United have lost Casemiro and will be without the injured Manuel Ugarte for most of the campaign.

Carrick’s squad could consequently be chasing a third addition in midfield, with Borussia Dortmund and Germany international Felix Nmecha believed to be on their radar.

Nevertheless, they may find themselves beaten to the signing by Newcastle United in the pursuit of the 25-year-old. Sky Sports Germany have claimed that the Magpies are preparing an offer for the midfielder following initial discussions.

United’s reported interest in Nmecha is understood to have diminished after it became apparent that Dortmund are seeking €100million (£85.8m) for his services.

Internal disagreements at Old Trafford may be hindering the club from completing a third midfield acquisition.

United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, has pressed the club to target AS Roma star Manu Kone, yet sporting director Jason Wilcox remains sceptical about the France international.

Jacobs featured on the United Stand to discuss the club’s transfer business, suggesting that both Wilcox and Carrick prefer a signing with proven Premier League experience, similar to Tielemans and Santos.

The Red Devils have been connected with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, though whether United can complete another midfield signing before the summer window closes remains uncertain, reports the Manchester Evening News.
