An 18-year-old golfing prodigy has sadly died after she collapsed ahead of a tournament – leaving the sport in mourning

A golfing prodigy, 18, has sadly died after suffering a brain haemorrhage while preparing for a tournament in Thailand.
Jessica Bang collapsed on August 1 and was rushed to hospital for emergency brain surgery, but sadly passed away on Thursday (August 13) after almost two weeks in intensive care. The WPGA Tour of Australasia has led the tributes for the “outstanding talent”.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the WPGA Tour of Australasia and the broader Australian golf community are with Jessica’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved her at this incredibly difficult time,” a statement read.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Bang’s cousins, and writing on that family members said: “We are truly heartbroken by this news. However, we would like to continue to remember Jessica and celebrate her achievements, passion, and dedication to golf.
As her cousins, we will forever cherish the time and memories we shared with Jessica. Her sense of humor, together with her cheerful and vibrant personality, will always be remembered and treasured by our family.
“The funds we have raised will be given to her parents to help contribute towards her medical expenses. Once again, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported Jessica and our family through this incredibly difficult time.”
Bang started her career last season, and won her first event during her fifth ever entry on the Tour.
She won the Ford Women’s NSW Open Regional Qualifying Event at Moss Vale in February, with her mother acting as her caddie – setting a new course record as she shot eight-under-par 65 in the final round to win by five shots.
“I’m so happy, I can’t even put it into words,” she said after the win, per thesoutherwire.com. “It still doesn’t feel real yet. I did not expect this at all – big surprise.”
