Manchester actor Lauren Blackmore, 29, receives a £150 monthly beauty allowance from her husband Christopher, 34, covering hair, nails and lashes – and she’s urging other women not to settle for less

A boastful newlywed has revealed that her husband gives her a monthly beauty allowance – and is now encouraging women not to settle for less.

Lauren Blackmore started receiving beauty-related gifts from her partner Christopher Blackmore after they got engaged in October 2024. The 29 year old said her other half insisted on covering the cost of her hair and nail appointments in the run-up to their wedding, so she didn’t have to ‘give up looking after herself’ to save money.

Then, after the couple tied the knot in May 2026, 34-year-old Christopher, who earns more, began transferring £150 every month to fund Lauren’s hair, nail and lash appointments.

Lauren, who works as an actor, says the beauty allowance covers her £100 scalp bleach and tone, £50 eyelash extensions and £30 gel nails. Lauren views her monthly gift as a sign of Christopher’s love and appreciation and insists she returns the favour with video games and housework.

Firm in her belief that the gesture is not anti-feminist, Lauren says her allowance isn’t about the money, but rather accepting a special treat from her partner.

Now, Laura is urging other women not to settle for less after finding her dream man. Lauren, from Manchester, said: “We got engaged in October 2024 and we started to save up for the wedding.

“We had the wedding to pay for but he didn’t want me to give up looking after myself, which was amazing. I have hair and nail appointments to go to, so Christopher just decided he wanted to start treating me and then it became a regular thing.

“It sort of evolved over time it started off as a nice treat. He’s on a higher income than me so he started paying for the things that I love to get done.

“Then in bridal preparation I started to get facials done and different beauty treatments as well, so he said ‘I’ll give you £150 each month and you can just use it whenever you want to’.

“Anything over that I just pay for myself. If I had anything left over I’d buy myself some clothes or make-up items I’ve run out of. He loves to do it. Initially I felt bad because we had this really big wedding to pay for.”

Lauren maintains her husband covers her beauty treatments as an expression of affection and gratitude, and explains she returns the gesture with unexpected presents.

Lauren said: “Whenever we’ve been in times of financial hardship I’ve always said to him ‘you don’t have to do this’ but he says ‘no I want to do this. It’s just as much for me as it is for you because it makes me feel good to be able to treat my partner’.

“I like to reciprocate. We treat each other in different ways, I like to surprise him, I go and get him a game occasionally and I do a lot of the housework as well. I could pay for these things myself but he’s offering to as a gesture of love and appreciation for me.”

After revealing details of her monthly complimentary treatments on TikTok, the beauty budget sparked debate amongst viewers.
