Police swarmed a school in Fagersta, Sweden, on Friday afternoon after a ‘sword-wielding’ suspect stormed the site injuring at least two people. He was reportedly shot and arrested
Multiple people have been injured after a suspect stormed a school in Sweden wielding a sword, police said.
Eight schools are now on lockdown after cops swarmed the scene in Fagersta, an industrial town around 100 miles west of Stockholm. A suspect has reportedly been shot in the leg by police cops and taken into custody, with at least two people said to have been injured, according to Aftonbladet.
A police spokesperson said in a statement: “A call was received regarding a case of ongoing deadly violence at a school in Fagersta,” police said in a statement. “Police have responded to the scene and one person has been taken into custody.
“[We] are continuing to work at the scene with a number of different resources. The public is urged to respect the roadblocks and listen to police instructions.”
A full investigation has now been launched. SVT reports “teary” parents have been trying to get hold of their children. Helicopters were also spotted flying overhead as emergency services attended the school.
Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer told Aftonbladet: “We have been informed of a serious incident in Fagersta.
“The police are on site and are working very intensively on the incident. The government is in close contact with the police and is continuously monitoring developments.”
Magdalena Andersson, Sweden’s Leader of the Opposition, wrote on X: “Terrible information from Fagersta. My thoughts go out to those affected and everyone affected.
“When violence takes place at a school, I know it affects everyone in our country. All of Sweden stands with Fagersta in this difficult time.”
