Ex-Prem star, 30, ‘nearly died twice’ throughout terrifying ordeal the place he ‘could not breathe’
A former Premier League striker has admitted he “almost died twice” after suffering a severe allergic reaction that left him unable to breathe
A former Premier League sriker has claimed he “almost died twice” during a couple of terrifying ordeals where he “couldn’t breathe”.
Deniz Undav, who turned out for Brighton and Hove Albion on these shores, was asked about his favourite foods when appearing on a recent podcast. And the 30-year-old Stuttgart striker opened up a recent scary experience.
He had been asked if he enjoyed sushi when Undav admitted: “Yes, but only with salmon or vegetarian. Because I can’t eat shrimp…I’ve had an allergic reaction twice; I almost died both times.” He added he is allergic to most seafood, including lobster and mussels.

He continued, when asked about the reaction: “Everything swells up, and I can’t breathe. I’d never even heard of that before.”
However, Undav, who was part of the German squad the World Cup, added one of his biggest loves is enjoying a relaxing meal alongside wife, Tanja.
“When we play internationally, we usually train in the afternoon. Then, between ten and twelve o’clock, I go to Stuttgart’s city centre with my wife.
“It’s quiet and you can have some peace and quiet. We eat together, for example, avocado toast with salmon.”
Undav moved to the Amex in 2022 from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise – but he struggled in front of goal on the south coast and was loaned out to Stuttgart.
He has since notched an impressive 57 goals in 117 appearances for Stuttgart, while also chipping in with 30 assists.
As part of the German squad in North America, he found the net against Curacao and Ivory Coast. However, Germany were sent packing the round of 32 against Paraguay.
