Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will “be on their own” if the UK comeback backfires, a royal insider claims.

The royal family – who are reportedly readying themselves for the PR ‘onslaught’ from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – are planning to “play the long game”.

“Harry and Megan only see five to 10 minutes into the future. They play the here and now,” royal insider Rob Shuter said on The Nerve podcast. “The royals play not next week, but the next 10 or 20 years. That’s how far ahead they are looking. They plan that company, that family, like it’s a major business. It is a business. And so, they’re not looking for the easy hit.

“I’m told that the royals are going to just let them. Just let them do it. Just let them. And a year from now, 6 months from now, 5 years from now, ‘we’ll still be standing,’” Shuter added.

Shuter said the Royal family certainly wouldn’t be queuing up should their step back into the spotlight backfire for some reason.

“The other thing, too, is if you give them enough rope, they just can’t help themselves. They mess everything up,” the former publicist explained about the Sussexes. “The palace won’t be there to clear up. That’s what I’ve been told from my sources inside the palace is that they’re not going to help them. But maybe worse than that, when things go wrong, they’re not going to fix it.”

It comes after it was revealed Meghan Markle is likely grappling with “very mixed emotions” after landing in Britain yesterday, according to a former friend of the duchess.

On Wednesday, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in the UK with their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, intending to set up home in the country.

This move comes after the family spent the last six years living in Montecito, California – a change they made following Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties in the UK in 2020. While they plan to keep their Montecito mansion, it’s understood that they’re set to make the UK their main base, with their children already enrolled at a British school.

The location of their non-royal UK residence, situated outside of London , remains undisclosed. While Harry, 41, is likely overjoyed to be living again in the country where he grew up, a former friend of Meghan Markle suggested she might be feeling more ambivalent about this new chapter.
