Liverpool followers moaning about transfers have £364m causes to cease complaining
Nothing is more fickle than a football fan and no-one is more fickle at times, than those belonging to Liverpool.
Last summer, Liverpool spent a record £415m on behalf of Arne Slot and broke the British transfer record not once, but twice in a matter of weeks after signing Florian Wirtz and then Alexander Isak. The ensuing season failed to pan out how the club wanted it to. Granted. But the intent was there.
This summer, Liverpool have the highest net spend in the window. Bradley Barcola has been brought in for £123m from Paris Saint Germain, making him the club’s second most expensive signing. Jeremy Jacquet has strengthened a defence now missing Ibrahima Konate, who has gone to Real Madrid, while new £35m man Victor Munoz has added pace and flair.

There’s no escaping the fact Liverpool lack the depth needed to challenge for another league title. While new manager Andola Iraola would like to have got himself a new defensive midfielder and defender.
But the fact large sections of supporters are now criticising the club’s transfer dealings is ironic in the extreme. Just a few months ago these same people were hammering the team for having lost its identity.
The DNA of fast, attacking football had been drained from the make-up of a side which had become stale and boring.

Yet Liverpool now have three world class attackers in the shape of Wirtz, Isak and Barcola, who have cost a combined £364m, but represent one of most feared forward lines in Europe, let alone England.
A trio more than capable of ripping defences to shreds. Three superstars who should light up Liverpool, having been given time to gel.
Anfield needs some excitement following a mediocre campaign last season, which cost Slot his job. And these three will provide some.
So instead of focusing on what Liverpool don’t have, how about fans focusing on what their club does have?
It’s impossible to imagine another fan base not being thrilled with seeing Wirtz, Isak and Barcola line up alongside one another.
Not to mention Munoz, another winger in Cody Gapko – who Manchester City were prepared to spend £85m on – and one of England’s brightest young talents in Rio Ngumoha.

Those in the red half of Merseyside should be looking forward to seeing Liverpool score bagfuls of goals, producing some entertaining football and winning games.
Which, when all said and done, is all anyone self-respecting football fan wants to witness.
So consider your glass to be half full – as opposed to half empty.
And raise it to the prospect of seeing Liverpool regain some of that style and panache that’s been missing the last 12 months.
