An Iranian lawmaker has claimed the planet is ‘practically on the brink of World War III’ as Donald Trump hits Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf after new strikes

The globe is “practically on the brink of World War III,” an Iranian official has warned as new US airstrikes hit the nation.
Iranian MP Kamran Ghazanfari told the Iranian Labour News Agency that he viewed the Russia – Ukraine conflict and escalating tensions between rival powers as grounds for an all out global war.
The media publication Iran International states: “Ghazanfari said that NATO’s support for Ukraine in its war with Russia and Moscow’s tensions with Britain and Germany have increased the possibility of the conflict spreading to other European countries. He also called the US- China dispute over Taiwan another area of widespread conflict in the world.”
Ghazanfari, a representative in Tehran’s parliament, suggested the nation might also soon consider pulling out of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

He has previously been an outspoken opponent of peace talks with the US, reports the Express. In June, he condemned the memorandum of understanding, arguing any agreement with the US would be illegitimate and non-binding.
His recent remarks come as the US President ordered strikes against Iran’s Kharg Island and Jask. Citing senior US officials, Fox News chief national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin reported: “The US military has struck targets near Kharg Island and Jask.
“The targets include Iranian oil tankers. This is part of a larger effort to squeeze Iran economically. The strategy includes sinking and disabling Iranian crude oil tankers.”
US Central Command announced it had destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday following further attempted missile attacks on a navy warship.

Iran hit back, with state media claiming strikes on eight oil tankers and two US vessels, though US Central Command dismissed these claims as “completely false”.
It posted on X: “No US Navy warship has been struck; all IRGC attempted attacks failed.”
Iran’s foreign ministry also condemned Washington’s attacks as “illegal and aggressive” and warned of “consequences”. It stated: “Responsibility for the consequences arising from the continuation of US aggressive and interventionist actions in the region will rest with the US regime and its accomplices and partners.”

The development comes as Britain is poised to mobilise 95,000 retirees to help brace for potential conflict with Russia as World War Three fears ramp up. A massive exercise to activate an army of former servicemen and women is being orchestrated to take place next year.
Louise Sandher-Jones, the Armed Forces minister, revealed that a “strategic reserve” of 95,000 retired military personnel will be summoned into service “on a scale we haven’t seen for a long time”.
British manufacturing sites have already faced threats from Moscow over producing drones for Ukraine, with Western intelligence chiefs cautioning that Vladimir Putin is conducting a campaign that could spark warfare.
