Woman drowns in tub after sponge ‘blocked the plughole’ as horror particulars shared

A woman from Darwen tragically drowned in her bath after a sponge was found blocking the plughole, a court has heard.
Natasha, a native of Darwen, passed away at her Lynwood Avenue home on October 7, 2024. An inquest held at Blackburn Town Hall on Wednesday (September 23) revealed that Natasha was employed as a secretary at the time of her untimely death.
The court was told that the cause of Natasha’s death was drowning, with acute alcohol intoxication noted as a contributing factor. She was discovered in her bath at home, with a sponge obstructing the plughole. Despite Natasha grappling with “significant challenging personal issues” at the time of her passing, and receiving professional support, it was impossible to ascertain her intentions.

Area Coroner Emma Mather delivered a narrative conclusion, stating: “Natasha Margaret Keryk died on the 7th October 2024 in her home in Darwen.
“Natasha was found submerged in the bath where a sponge was covering the plug and she died from drowning.”, reports Lancs Live.
“At the time of her death she was acutely intoxicated. Natasha was experiencing significant challenging personal issues at the time of her death and was being supported by professionals. Her intentions cannot be determined.”
Meanwhile, experts have made new claims around the mystery of the British couple found dead in the hot tub of their luxury Spanish villa.
Patrick Tobin, 48, and Thomasina Tobin, 51, had cuts on both their bodies as investigators believe they died as a result of a deadly jacuzzi malfunction.
The London-based family were on holiday in a hilltop property in Cullera near Valencia last month. Their bodies were discovered by their two teenage sons, partially outside of the water or just outside the edge of the hot tub. Reports indicate they may have lain undiscovered for up to 12 hours.
Initial findings suggested they may have been victims of “suction entrapment”. The rare phenomenon is known to occur when a fault or block creates a vacuum at a hot tub drain, trapping a person’s body, hair of clothing.
Forensic evidence and autopsy results suggest that one partner became trapped by the powerful suction and the other suffered fatal exhaustion while desperately attempting a rescue.
However some experts aren’t convinced. Francisco Quero, a spa technician in the Valencia area told the Daily Mail: ”This is a privately owned [hot tub] on private property, which means its motor runs on two or three horsepower maximum [equivalent to a large lawnmower or pressure washer].” Read the full story here.
