Russia will ‘go nuclear’ leaving ‘little left’ of Europe as WW3 menace looms

A Russian political scientist boldly claimed to the BBC that his country – while initially using conventional military tactics – would be prepared to ‘go nuclear’ should Europe not back down

Russia could “go nuclear” and destroy European countries if they continue backing Ukraine, one of Vladimir Putin’s cronies has warned. Sergei Karaganov said Russia would switch to nuclear attacks if Europe refused to back down while dismissing the prospect of Britain or the US retaliating in type.

The strategist told the BBC: “If they continue this war, a European war with American help, against Russia, on Ukrainian territory, sooner or later we’ll feel the need to escalate.”

Karaganov – honorary chairman for Russia’s Council for Foreign and Defence Policy – added: “According to my scenarios, the first series of blows will be conventional. But if Europe does not surrender, unfortunately, we will have to go nuclear. There will be little left of some European countries.”

When he was challenged over the prospect of a European response, he said: “No, there will be no response from Europe. What, Britain will attack Russia with nuclear weapons? I hope you’re not that crazy. I’m sure the Americans are not that crazy.”

Karaganov also criticised his own government for not going hard enough in their war against Ukraine, promising Moscow is now stepping up its attacks.

It comes as Russia puts pressure on European countries to cut their financial support for Ukraine.

In recent weeks there have been mounting tensions between Russia and European countries, with some Western officials accusing Moscow of targeting NATO countries through cyber attacks, sabotage and drone strikes.

German officials recently blamed Russia after a drone carrying an explosive device was found close to Ukrainian cargo planes at Leipzig airport.

Mad Vlad himself has given little indication he is ready to halt the fighting, despite Russia’s heavy battlefield losses and the damage to its economy. In his speeches he still appears bullish about Moscow’s ability to secure victory.

Meanwhile, UK MPs remain vigilant about the threat posed from Putin. Wes Streeting recently issued a sobering warning that Britain faces a “greater risk of war” with Russia than at any point during his lifetime.

Streeting urged families across the nation to adopt a “whole society approach” to national resilience by panic-proofing their homes against potential military conflict, terror strikes, or devastating natural disasters.
