Police have confirmed that the body of an 11-year-old girl has tragically been found in a park in Worcestershire as the death is currently being treated as unexplained. The girl was reported missing at around 11.20pm on Sunday (October 4).

She was later found dead in the park near the cricket ground in Elmley Castle, West Mercia Police said.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, the force added. Details regarding the girl’s identity have not yet been released.

Police say they are carrying out inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death, which is being treated as unexplained.

The force added there will be an “increased police presence” in the area while they carry out their investigation.

In a statement, West Mercia Police said: “An investigation has been launched after the body of an 11-year-old girl was found in Elmley Castle, Worcestershire.

“The girl was reported missing at around 11.20pm yesterday evening (Sunday 4 October) and was later found deceased in the park near the cricket ground.

“Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding her death, which at this stage is being treated as unexplained.

“People living in Elmley Castle will see an increased police presence in the area while officers carry out their enquiries.”
