Brits have been offcially warned that snow will fall across certain areas of the UK this weekend as temperatures take a nosedive. Residents throughout a vast stretch of the nation have been advised to prepare for “colder air, brisk winds and lively showers” with snow possible in particular regions, the Met Office has announced.

The wet and blustery conditions are expected to bring the unusually mild September to a close as the mercury drops and things turn wintry. Saturday is expected to begin “on a chilly note” according to the Met Office weekend forecast, with widespread cloud and a sharp wind across many areas.

Most locations can anticipate a changeable start to the weekend with conditions becoming wetter throughout the day.

The Met Office forecast stated: “Showers will move through widely during the day, with northern parts of the UK likely to see the most frequent and intense downpours. Scotland will be particularly prone to heavy showers, with a risk of hail and thunder.”, reports the Mirror.

“There could even be a temporary sprinkling of snow over the highest ground, adding a wintry flavour to the autumn weather.”

Most areas can expect to experience showers, the forecaster noted, with only the far south and southeast having any chance of escaping a drenching. The sharp north-westerly wind is expected to make temperatures feel colder than typical for this time of year , according to predictions, while temperatures will feel particularly bitter in northern regions that are exposed to both wind and rain.

BBC weather forecaster Stav Danaos warned that conditions will feel “more autumnal” at times during the coming week .

“As we move deeper into the week we will see high pressure in the south east, areas of low pressure skirting past the north west and at times bringing wet and very windy weather to the north west,” he said.

“The high pressure continues to culminate towards central and southern areas and I think temperatures will be up and down as well. At times it will feel more autumnal but we will also see some warmer interludes as well but they will probably be mixed with wet and windy spells.

“So there will be some more autumnal weather on the way, temperatures will be closer to the seasonal average, maybe a little bit above at times towards the south east and we will see a greater chance of wet and windy weather in more western parts.”
