Furious Jose Mourinho slams Man Utd referee in foul-mouthed rant on TNT Sports

Jose Mourinho slammed the referee in a foul-mouthed rant after Thursday’s Europa League clash

Mourinho was handed his marching orders during the 1-1 draw between Fenerbahce and Manchester United, defender Bright Osayi-Samuel went down in the box following a challenge by Manuel Ugarte.

When the referee and VAR did not give this as a penalty, the Portuguese manager was seen raging on the touchline. And Mourinho pulled no punches when speaking on TNT Sports: “He [the referee] told me something incredible.

“He said at the same time he could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline. Congratulations because it’s absolutely incredible his peripheral vision during the game.

“At 100mph he had one eye on the penalty situation and one eye on the bench and my behaviour. That’s why he’s one of the best referees in the world.” While TNT Sports host Jules Breach added she ‘couldn’t repeat’ what Mourinho had said in the tunnel.

Fenerbahce had been the better side in Istanbul, but still found themselves behind after a 15-minute opener from Christian Eriksen. And Mourinho was baffled his side didn’t go into the break level after Andre Onana pulled off an incredible double save.

Youssef En-Nesyri, who had been denied by Onana in the double save, was able to level the game just after half-time. And it would remain level, with both sides claiming a point.

This leaves United 21st in the Europa League table. Three draws from three games means Ten Hag’s side are still searching for their first European win in over a year.
