Emma Raducanu battled through pain to secure her spot in the Australian Open third round, setting up an epic showdown on Super Saturday against Iga Swiatek.

“I was able to push past some pain today,” she admitted after the match.

With no warm-up matches due to a back spasm that disrupted her training pre-Christmas, the Brit had to call for a medical timeout during her clash with Amanda Anisimova.

Despite going down 0-3 in the second set, Raducanu rallied back to take victory with a 6-3, 7-5 scoreline, marking her most impressive showing at a Grand Slam since her 2021 US Open triumph.

Celebrating her latest feat, she noted “fourth time lucky” onto the camera lens. “This is a slam that I love playing at so to make it past the second round means a lot to me,” she expressed, reports the Express.

Meanwhile her opponent, Anisimova, was once left livid when she hit back at body-shamers on Instagram. After sharing a mirror selfie that attracted some nasty comments, she put one troll on blast by posting their DM: “The most unathletic body ever, narrow shoulders and giant boobs.”

Her sassy reply? A simple “thank you” and a smooch emoji. In another Insta story, the 23-year-old was seen blowing a kiss with the words: “But enjoy your life, I’ll go enjoy mine.”

She also opened up about the constant body commentary online, saying: “The number of people who comment on my body every day on social media… will never understand what the hyper fixation is about.”

The American and Raducanu have developed a close friendship away from the court.

Raducanu, after the clash, opened up about the emotional turmoil of facing a pal on the court: “It’s incredibly difficult whenever you play a friend, it adds another dimension to the match and not necessarily a pleasant one. I think I did a good job.

“I think I’ve played some friends a few times now. I think today was the best I’ve probably handled it in terms of leaving it off the court. I think as soon as we stepped on the court, we just, yeah, put that aside. We were both trying to beat each other.

“It’s not necessarily the nicest feeling, but I think I know who my friends are in terms of most of them, pretty much all of them are away from the tour, and I think I quite like keeping it that way.

“But I obviously have a few friends on tour who I get on really well with, and it also is nice to be able to relate to someone. We all go through the same things.
