Crocodile knowledgeable movies himself raping puppies and admits ‘I find it irresistible, I reside for it’
WARNING, DISTRESSING CONTENT: Adam Britton, 49, was jailed last year for the torture and rape of animals that he owned and described as ‘f*** toys’. His wife has now spoken out
The wife of twisted British zoologist Adam Britton has labelled her husband a “monster” following the revelation of his horrific crimes. Erin Britton has broken her two-year silence about the moment she uncovered the sickening reasons behind her husband’s arrest.
Last year, the former BBC professional who worked alongside David Attenborough was imprisoned for the torture and rape of animals he owned, which he disturbingly referred to as “f*** toys.” He recorded himself sexually abusing, torturing and killing dozens of dogs and was put behind bars after confessing to 56 offences related to the torture and sexual exploitation of over 42 animals on his rural property.
The crocodile researcher at Charles Darwin University admitted to 60 appalling animal abuse charges, including raping puppies, which occurred inside a shipping container used as a “torture room”.
The Yorkshire-born fiend was sentenced to 10 years and five months with a six-year non-parole period. After the shocking details came to light, Britton’s wife Erin left the family home.
In an exclusive interview with 60 Minutes Australia two years later, she said: “I cannot comprehend still, how somebody can be so depraved, so evil. He’s destroyed my entire life.”
The programme sees Erin return to the marital home on the outskirts of Dawin for the first time since her husband’s arrest, where she tells the presenter: “It’s going to be hard for me to go back because there was so much I loved about that property. It was amazing and it’s part of me. Everything in my world changed.”
The property served as the location where the couple had housed crocodiles and operated a wildlife consultancy firm. However, while Erin was away at exhibitions, far more disturbing activities were taking place there.
Officers discovered dog remains stored in a refrigerator alongside filming equipment that Britton had used to record himself committing the vile acts. In communications with his depraved followers on the dark web, he confessed: “I love to hurt dogs, I live for it. I can’t stop myself hurting dogs.”
Reflecting on her husband’s detention, Erin revealed: “I was away at the time. I had no idea why or what the crimes were, no knowledge at all.
“I didn’t find out until I spoke to his lawyer the following morning… she told me that there were crimes of animal cruelty and beastiality… my brain was like denial, no. Hearing that information is the most awful thing you could ever hear about your partner. It was so shocking and I felt sick.
“I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t think. My brain was having trouble processing and understanding how such a horrible thing could even exist in the world. And then to find out that this was relating to him.”
Erin, a wildlife expert who previously encountered Prince Harry and assisted him in capturing a crocodile, branded her husband a “psychopath…hiding in plain sight”.
The pair had collaborated with production companies, supplying crocodile footage and once welcomed David Attenborough who was recording a segment for the BBC BAFTA-winning programme Life in Cold Blood. Britton and Erin were spotlighted in interviews about their research on ABC News and Triple J’s Hack.
They even filmed themselves feeding a freshwater crocodile on their property during a Covid lockdown in 2020. However, Britton, who holds a PhD in zoology from Bristol University, began his criminal activities in 2014, sexually abusing his own pet dogs – Swiss Shepherds Ursa and Bolt – in a hidden “torture room’ constructed on his rural property in McMinns Lagoon.
He continued torturing animals until his arrest in April 2022 after a video of his vile acts, which he had shared online, was provided to Australia’s Northern Territory animal welfare authorities. Britton has confessed to an interest in ” built on his rural property in McMinns Lagoon.
His animal torture continued until his arrest in April 2022 when a video of his horrific acts, which he had shared online, was handed over to Australia’s Northern Territory animal welfare authorities.
Britton has admitted to an interest in “zoo-sadism” and, in numerous online messages, he guided others on how to commit similar acts of abuse. Detectives found that Britton’s most severe offences occurred while Erin was away.
When asked how she was unaware of her husband’s secret life, Erin responded: “That’s the question I’ve been asking myself every day. Why did I not know? What did I miss? Scratching my head, trying to play back events of the last few years to see if there’s any detail but there’s nothing.”
She further added: “We were living in separate rooms at that time. We still had a very good close bond, partnership/friendship but it had been a number of years since we were romantically together. He was spending a lot of time on his computer. When I talked to him, he was quite withdrawn, increasingly so.”
She revealed: “I only found out recently that my former pets (they’ve passed on) were probably victims and I feel terribly sad for them.”
Erin labelled Adam as a serial killer and psychopath, stating: “Here is a situation which is off the scale, off the charts, that’s never been heard of. How do you deal with something like that?”.
