Emergency providers swarm Aldi after truck overturns onto footpath in metropolis centre

A truck has overturned onto a footpath outside a major supermarket.

Emergency crews raced to the scene of a crash in Cork city, Ireland, this morning (November 13) after a lorry carrying steel cargo toppled over onto a pavement outside Aldi.

Fortunately, no pedestrians were present on the footpath at the time, and the vehicle’s driver was rescued from the cab, albeit shaken but without injury.

The incident took place just after 9am, as the truck was navigating the corner from Eglinton Street onto Albert Street in what authorities described as a single-vehicle accident.

The heavy goods vehicle came to rest on its side on the deserted pavement outside a shop.

Police have sealed off part of the footpath along with a stretch of Albert Street.

As a precautionary measure, paramedics from the National Ambulance Service examined the motorist.

Fire crews have since departed the scene, with Cork City Fire Brigade Second Officer Victor Shine said that Gardaí are awaiting the arrival of a crane to clear the vehicle from the carriageway.

Albert Street is presently operating with just one lane available for traffic.
