Wigan bar evacuated as in style nightlife avenue shut as revellers watch closed membership blaze
Bars were evacuated on a busy Saturday (November 22) night in a UK town after a major blaze was sparked.
Revellers in Wigan saw the usually busy King Street shut as some venues had to evacuate following a fire at a closed nightclub.
It’s understood the fire, which was called at around 10.30pm, involved the site of the now closed former Jak’s nightclub, reports MEN.
Reef Bar and Terrace, which is next door to the closed club, said it evacuated. In a Facebook post early on Sunday, the bar praised its staff, security and DJs. saying:
The post read: “All carried out an effective and safe evacuation and have all done really well working in an unfamiliar environment tonight. The team is an absolute asset.”

Fire crews have remained at the scene this morning (November 23) as work and investigation at the site continues.
Revellers out last night posted dozens of photographs and videos on social media.
Images showed a major emergency services response to the blaze as onlookers watched in horror as flames could be seen coming through the derelict building.
No injuries have been reported at this time but Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service warned people to avoid the area last night. Crews were seen using a drone to survey the site from above.
According to one witness at the scene, police officers appeared to detain one individual who allegedly breached the cordon put in place.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At shortly before 10.30pm last night fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a commercial building on King Street, Wigan.
“Six fire engines from Wigan, Hindley, Leigh, Horwich, an engine from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, one Command Unit from Rochdale, one Aerial Ladder Platform from Bolton, one Enhanced Rescue Unit from Ashton and the drone, quickly attended the large fire involving an empty commercial building.
“Firefighters extinguished the fire using two ground monitors and the Aerial Ladder Platform vehicle. Crews remain in attendance.”
