Migrant deported from UK twice is jailed after returning for third time

Emirjon Gjuta, 34, was deported from the UK twice and has now been sentenced to 14 months in prison at Leeds Crown Court after turning up for a third time in recent years

An Albanian man, deported from the UK twice in three years, has been imprisoned after illegally returning once more, prosecutors have revealed. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) reported that Emirjon Gjuta, 34, was expelled from the UK in August 2020 following a conviction and sentence for drug-related crimes.

He was subsequently arrested in March 2022 for being in the UK unlawfully and sent back to Albania a year later after receiving a sentence for violating his deportation order and possessing another person’s identification document.

Gjuta was handed a 14-month prison sentence at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, having previously admitted to re-entering the UK in November 2024 in defiance of the 2020 deportation order, according to the CPS.

A spokesperson stated that the defendant claimed he hadn’t fully comprehended the contents of the deportation order due to the lack of an interpreter in court in 2020 and 2022.

However, documents signed by Gjuta confirmed that he did not oppose the 2020 deportation order and never attempted to appeal against it.

The spokesperson added that it was unclear how Gjuta arrived in the UK in November 2024, but he was apprehended in Leeds in September 2025.

Nick Smith, from the CPS, said: “Emirjon Gjuta had no right to remain or work in the UK and has been deported twice already. It’s clear he does not care about the rules and has committed crimes when he’s been in the UK previously. The CPS will continue to work with the Home Office and police forces to prosecute those who have no right to be in the country.”

The CPS revealed Gjuta was banged up for four years and six months in September 2019 after pleading guilty to conspiring to cultivate cannabis and two charges of possessing or controlling identity documents with intent.

In October 2019 he was served with a deportation notice and signed a waiver agreeing not to challenge his removal. He was kicked out of the country in August 2020.

In March 2022, Gjuta was handed eight months behind bars after being nicked for violating a deportation order and fake document offences. He was booted out once more in March 2023, the CPS confirmed.
