Jailed mum faces deportation after enslaving girl and ‘beating her’ with sticks
A 30-year-old woman has been jailed for 11 years and faces deportation after being accused of subjecting another woman to nearly two years of horrific modern slavery
A 30-year-old woman has been imprisoned and now faces deportation following a string of serious offences. Anna Stukova, from Elm Street, Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent, England, has been accused of enslaving a woman, coercing her into prostitution, and compelling her to steal for financial benefit.
Throughout a harrowing 23-month period, Stukova reportedly forced the said-victim into prostitution with at least two men in a car park, in addition to making her perform oral sex on her in a stairwell. Stukova then reportedly seized the money from the victim and departed in a taxi, abandoning the alleged victim alone by the roadside.
On numerous other occasions she is said to have repeatedly struck the victim with a stick, yanked her hair and kicked her, whilst also compelling her to shoplift, the Stoke on Trent Live reported.
Paul Cliff, mitigating, explained: “There was a degree of vulnerability in Ms Stukova as there were periods of homelessness and she slept on the street. At the time she was in the grip of an addiction to both heroin and monkey dust and she was financially not able to maintain that addiction without resorting to prostitution. In her time on remand she has spent her time constructively.
“Whilst in custody she uses a methadone programme which has resulted in her being free of all illegal drugs and substances. She has tried to better herself and is studying a number of courses, including improving her English and practical courses, and she hopes there will be greater availability to continue to use her time as she is able.”
Nevertheless, Stukova received an 11-year prison sentence.
She was found guilty of:
- Two counts of modern slavery
- Causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent
- Threatening a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place
- Two counts of assault by beating
- Two counts of assaulting a person occasioning actual bodily harm
- Three counts of intimidating a witness
- Two counts of theft
- Burglary
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court reportedly heard that the mum-of-two will be deported back to the Czech Republic after serving two-thirds of her sentence. Judge Richard McConaghy condemned her actions, stating: “You saw your victim as someone you could exploit and bully.
“She describes you grabbing hold of her and keeping her close so you could exploit her, that was evident in the video footage shown in the trial. You attacked her with a stick and hit her 20 times and she had severe bleeding.
“In another situation in an alleyway in Cobridge, you pulled her hair and kicked her in the stomach.” He continued: “You compelled her to steal from shops for your advantage so you could avoid detection.
“You forced her to be a prostitute and you took money from her and left in a taxi and left her to stand by the road. You forced her to perform a sex act on you in a stairway in Hanley – this was to show her she could do whatever you wanted, and during this you grabbed her hair and stole her bank card.
“You were seen in an area of sex workers and the victim was getting changed, she told police there was only one incident of you forcing her to use prostitution, but I’m sure that same day in the car park you forced her to perform sex with two separate men. You beat her up in a hotel room and you wanted to go out of the back way through a fire exit and the footage we saw showed the vile, threatening ways you acted towards her.
“You took her to steal from a shop and you threatened her with a stick. After police were involved you took various steps to stop her, three times you intimidated her and in one case you stole her phone from her.
“The impact on the victim was significant and professionals who dealt with her became increasingly concerned on the grip you held over her and saw significant deterioration in her over the time you held power over her. She was plainly scared of you.
“In terms of mitigation there’s little to be said. You’re now in your 30s and you took it upon yourself to exploit a vulnerable person and you express no remorse whatsoever and retain your denial.”
