‘I believed it was a mistake, I by no means win something’ – Martin from Grangemouth celebrates £1 million jackpot win on Soccer Saturday
November was a month to remember for Martin Docherty from Grangemouth as he followed up an incredible £1 million jackpot win with a money-can’t-buy trip to Sky Sports Studios.
Under Super 6’s £1M TIL IT’S WON promotion, if no one landed the £1 million jackpot by predicting six correct scores in any of rounds 1 to 9, the player at the top of the overall leaderboard would claim the prize instead.
More than 10,000 contenders were still in with a chance heading into the final round of fixtures, with 76 players separated by just 10 points.
And up stepped Martin, who scored nine points over the final weekend which was enough to leapfrog him from third into the top spot – beating out 1,445,104 players and joining an elite group of Super 6 millionaires.
It was Bruno Guimaraes who scored the crucial goal of the round as his last-minute winner against Fulham secured Martin five points and his only correct score of the round.

In total, Martin racked up 110 points over nine rounds which included predicting some unlikely scores along the way
Martin spoke to Super 6 following his huge win.
‘I retired last year and because I have got more time I have been playing a lot more. I hadn’t really given much thought to how many people I managed to beat, a lot of it is luck,’ he said.
‘I have a soft spot for Arsenal, so I never put them to lose, so I suppose a bit of bias goes into my picks. I am amazed, I can’t remember ever winning anything before so it’s really unusual.
‘I got an email last Monday saying where I was in the table, so I was keeping a close eye on the scores. I originally put 2-2 for Everton vs Spurs, but I changed it last minute to a Spurs win, maybe that was the difference.’
Once the dust settled on his big win, Martin and his wife were invited down to Sky Sports Studios to share his story on Soccer Saturday and watch Saturday Night Football from behind the scenes as Sunderland took on Arsenal at the Stadium of Light.
He met pundits Tim Sherwood and Craig Dawson and took a look around the studio before sitting down for a chat with Soccer Saturday host Simon Thomas.
‘I genuinely thought it was a mistake, I never win anything,’ Martin said.
‘It’s such an incredible amount of money. The last-minute winner from Bruno got me five points on the day which helped get me over the line. I am retired so I have a world of possibilities now, I think I’ll probably keep going on holiday. If anyone is thinking about playing Super 6, I’d say give it a go!’
In total, Martin racked up 110 points over nine rounds which included predicting some unlikely scores along the way, including:
Round 2: Fulham 1-1 Man Utd (10.7%)
Round 3: Brighton 2-1 Man City (3.3%)
Round 7: Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool (8.2%)
Round 8: Spurs 1-2 Villa (5.4%)
